Course Content

In a sex-saturated culture, there is an urgent need like never before for parents to make sure they are addressing the issues of sex and relationships well with their children. The biggest question has to be, ‘how?!’

Most parents dread it. Many delay it for as long as possible. Some make the topic taboo; orchestrate a total media blackout and never so much as whisper the ‘S’ word to their kids...

This short course which looks at young people, sex, relationships and parenting, will cover such questions as:

Where do young people go to get their information?
What questions are they really asking about sex and relationships?
Can abstinence ever truly be appealing?
If 'The Sex Talk' doesn't work, then what does?
What is virginity and how far is too far?
What was God's plan for sex and relationships in the first place?

Who is it for?

The workshops are for parents of all school age children (5yrs -18yrs) – for those already facing this challenging subject with their children and those who want to be ready when the time comes! Come prepared for fun but frank discussions as we learn together.

The Course Leaders

Sarah Rushby has been involved with youth work for 12 years and in particular with mentoring teenage girls and young women. She founded The LoveLife Project, writing and delivering sex and relationships education workshops which have been used by BCY with Upper School students for the last six years.

Matt Rushby has been involved with youth work for over 15 years and in full-time youth ministry since 2006 when he became a Youth Pastor at a church in Eastbourne. In 2008 he took up his current post as full-time youth worker with BCY (Bury Christian Youth), a Christian schools work charity based in Bury St Edmunds.

They say: "We have a God given, heartfelt longing to see young people valuing sex and marriage as highly as God does. This requires a complete cultural transformation and parents have a vital role to play in this".

Once wayward youths (who made every mistake in the book and drove their parents nuts!), Matt & Sarah got through their teenage years solely by God’s grace! They have now been happily married for 10 years and have a son and daughter.

Cost

The cost of the workshop is £15 per person (£25 per couple). Please pay online or send a cheque and booking form to the Spectrum Office (on the downloadable booking form). Please book by 22.04.15 and bring a packed lunch on the day.
